Always Be Ready…

Your story can inspire others.

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. (1 Peter 3:15, 16 NLT)

Are you ready?I can’t say I’m always ready. Like the time I got hammered by a self proclaimed atheist/ pagan. She grilled me for what seemed like an hour with questions in an attempt to counter my questions. Or the time a student was thinking about suicide…my words of encouragement, scripture and sharing the gospel didn’t seem to offer any comfort. I didn’t feel ready.

Always be ready…

Your own story of faith, hope and salvation can inspire others. Sometimes we think we need to speak or know all the big words like those seminary professors who try to wax eloquently with high sounding words. Or we try to copy and sound like some of those large church pastors who have written books we have read. Instead, to always be ready…read His Word everyday, all the time. Stay in the Word, it’s the gospel. Pray and ask God to give you the words needed to share. And tell YOUR story, not someone else’s. YOUR story can inspire others.

But telling your OWN story means admitting your faults. Admission of fault and acknowledgment of failure is the fruit of a life that’s been set free.

So…if someone asks about your hope and faith in Christ. Tell them YOUR story, be honest, don’t sugar coat it and blow it up to sound like something it’s not. Be you. Be real. By telling YOUR story of how the gospel changed your life and by staying in the Word you’ll…ALWAYS BE READY.

Remember, life is one long hiking trip and your hike through life (story) is unique. Your story of how Jesus and the gospel is navigating you through life can inspire others and lead them to the cross.
