What’s Stopping You?

How many miles have my feet logged in pursuing things that don’t matter or have taken me away from my dreams?

This is a question I’ve been asking myself lately.

We pursue careers, education and relationships, but many of us, including myself, are not pursuing our dreams.

At one time, not too long ago, I caught myself having a crazy and absurd thought; “you’re not as young as you used to be, so pursuing some dreams are crazy.”

The truth is, NOT pursuing them is absurd and crazy.

God gives us dreams for a reason. He has a plan and at times He reveals it in us through the Holy Spirit. The thing is, we need to take the time to discern our dreams and seek His will for those dreams.

We also need to NOT allow fear or others to hold back our dreams.

Maybe your dream is like mine, to hike and backpack as many trails and mountains you can, section hike the entire Appalachian Trail and camp on the crest of Crater National facing west to watch the sun disappear beyond the ridge over the lake.

Whatever your dreams are, seek out God’s advise, set aside fear and negative opinions from other and pursue your dreams.

The other day I realized something, I’m single, no children, healthy and a good job. So what’s keeping me from pursuing my dream but myself? Maybe a big part of many of us not pursuing our dreams is that we are own worst enemy. We get a dream and we tell God by not pursuing it; “I can’t do that.” Which essentially is telling Him He can’t make dreams come true.

Maybe not all my dreams will come true. Maybe they will but not exactly as I see them happening. I do know this, I want to wake up each day and punch fear in the face and pursue my dreams. It’s time my feet not only log in miles on the trails, but pursue my dreams at a steady pace.

Remember, life is one long hiking trip. We can hike by faith and allow God to guide us to our dreams or we can allow fear and negative opinions from others stear us off the trail and away from our dreams.
