*This is not our typical hiking article, but we hope you’ll take a minute to read this short note from our founder.
I’m sure everyone reading this is well aware of ISIS and all that is going on. If not, then you must live off grid and thereby would most likely not be reading this article.
Maybe you’ll see this as a rant. You may agree or not agree, and that’s okay.
As Jesus followers what should be our response to all the news and activity from ISIS? If you look at social media the reaction for the most part is wrong and NOT the way God wants us to respond. It seems everyday I see Christians posting on social media how we need to protect ourself, take up arms, etc.
Now, I’m not against guns. I don’t own one and I don’t have a desire to own one at this point, and I’m not against protecting ourselves. The problem for me…as believers, as people who praise and claim our hope is in Christ, why are we promoting and looking to other methods for the fight against evil?
Here is how my friend Will responded today and I must say it’s the best response I’ve read.
“Though we live in the world, we do NOT wage war as the world does. The Weapons we Fight With are NOT the weapons of the world. On The Contrary, They Have DIVINE POWER To DEMOLISH strongholds. We DEMOLISH arguments and EVERY pretension that sets itself up against The Knowledge Of God, and we Take Captive EVERY thought To Make it OBEDIENT To Christ.”-My HERO Jesus Christ, Reminding US Through my hero Paul Of Christ’s POWER, Christ’s WEAPONS IN US, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
As we live through times of great evil, I Am Reminded of this paradox.
We Are Called to LOVE ALL That God Draw them To Himself.
We Are Called to provide and defend. – Will Bratina
Frankly, and I don’t mean to cause tension, but for those who spend more time posting on social media about politics, guns, etc. I can’t help but wonder where your faith is. Can you honestly in the depths of your heart say you’re hope is in Christ?
Sure, does evil in this world concern me? Yes, I’d be a fool if it did not. But does it cause me worry and stress that I jump on the band wagon and spread the message of politics, gun control, etc.? No.
I’d much rather expel my energy enjoying life, exploring the world around me, hiking trails, climbing mountains, sleeping under the stars, and walking in my relationship with Jesus. Not spend my day worrying about the “what if’s” and “I don’t knows.” If you think this makes me ignorant you’re mistaken. Ignorance comes in when we take our eyes off the hope of Christ and onto thinking government can fix everything.
We waste so much time allowing outside stressers like the new media and social media to influence our thinking when we should be spending time in His Word getting to know Jesus better. Because real true joy is found in him.
And if you’re one of those Christians who focuses a lot of energy on thinking politics and guns will solve our world problem it’s my sincere hearts desire you take your eyes off of the world and back onto Jesus. It’s in Him you will find true peace.
Remember, life is one long hiking trip. We don’t always know what’s ahead of us on the trail and it’s why we look to our guides and map (Jesus and His Word). Happy Hiking!
