From Ricketts Glenn DCNR: As of November 21, 2016, FALLS TRAIL CLOSURE. Mother nature delivered 6 inches of wet heavy snow to Ricketts Glen last night. It continued snowing today, and this afternoon we measured7 inches. The forecast is for more snow showers and below freezing temperatures. Ice will be building up on the trail and it becomes very dangerous. So the rangers have decided to close the Falls Trail for the season. During the winter closure the only people allowed on the trail are experienced hikers with the proper equipment. They must sign in and out at the park office.
During the winter months Ricketts Glenn closes the Falls Trail due to icy conditions and the dangers that can come with hiking this trail. The frozen falls during the winter season are beautiful, but please keep in mind the risk of hiking this trail, be sure to sign in and out at the park office and hike with proper gear for icy conditions.
Required gear for this trail: ice crampons, ice axe, and rope.
